Ecovian Privacy Policy

We built Ecovian to make it easy for you to share information about the sustainability of various businesses and services as well as information about other green living topics with your friends and the entire online community. The collection of information and sharing it with others is therefore an integral aspect of our website. We recognize the importance of privacy and have created this privacy policy to fully describe how we handle such information.
Information we collect and how we use it
When you use the Ecovian website you provide us with three types of information: personal information that you disclose in the course of creating your account and creating your profile, content information that you disclose such as public and private communications, reviews, photos, and business information, and web site use information such as IP addresses and pages accessed, which is collected by us as you interact with our web site.
We store information that you submit or we collect, including personal information, content information, and web site use information. Additionally, we display much of this information to other users of the site.
Except as indicated, the information you submit in creating your account or completing your profile is generally displayed to other users of the site. However your email address and full name is not displayed to users other than those users you have formed a friend relationship with. Other than to friends, email addresses are not shown, and only your first name and last initial will be shown. Your city, state, and country information will be displayed to all users. Though we do not display your full name to non-friends, it may be possible for other users to match your name with your account by using the search functionality provided by the site.
Content that you submit such as reviews, comments, and photos will be publically displayed, and generally your profile information will be displayed alongside such content, attributing you as the creator of such content.
We may use your full name and email address for the purposes of sending you notifications of activities on this site (such as invitations or messages from other users), or for sending you news and updates regarding our website (subject to your email preferences as described below).
We use website use information we collect for nonpersonal purposes such as monitoring the health of our severs, administering the website, improving our website, and for non-identifying statistical purposes, for example to gauge the interest in various portions of our website.
By using Ecovian, you are consenting to have your personal data transferred to and processed in the United States.
Transfer of information to third parties
We may distribute any information you make publically available on the website, such as your profile information and reviews, to third parties, who may display this information on other platforms (i.e. other websites, media, etc). Your full name, email address, or any other personal information which is not displayed publically on our site will not be disclosed to such parties.
We may be required to disclose user information if required to do so by law or if we in good faith believe that an information request by law enforcement or private litigants meets applicable legal standards, to comply with a legal request, to prevent fraud or other illegal activity, to avoid liability or protect our rights and property.
If the ownership of Ecovian was to change, such as through a merger or acquisition, your information may be transferred to the new owner so that the service can continue operations. In such an event you will be notified before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Cookies

However by doing so you will be prevented from using many of the capabilities of the Ecovian website, including the ability to login (and thus post reviews or any other content).
Emails
Ecovian sends emails to users for the purposes of notifying them of events caused by other users (such as received invitations or messages), as well as to inform users of news and updates regarding our website, and (very rarely) when we need to communicate with a user directly. You may opt-out of email notifications and news updates by using the email settings under the account information portion of your profile, or by using the links provided at the bottom of all such emails.
Changing or removing information
Control over most personal information on Ecovian is readily available through the tools on the profile portion of our website. Users may modify or delete any of their profile information at any time by logging into their account, and may modify or remove reviews they have written on the page where their review is posted. Other communications sent via the Ecovian site, such as private messages, or public comments of forum posts, cannot generally be modified or deleted.
Members may email us at privacy@ecovian.com to request that we close their account. Upon receiving such a request we will make all reasonable efforts to remove your profile information and any reviews you have written from our website, however other private and public communications you have made cannot generally be removed. Additionally some information may persist in backup copies for a reasonable period of time but will not generally be available to other users of the Ecovian website.
Information security
Ecovian takes appropriate and industry standard precautions to protect the information of our users. These measures include internal reviews of our data collection, storage, and processing practices, information security measures, and physical security measures.
Because the communication capabilities of the Ecovian website are not recognized as secure communications, we request that you do not send any private communications through the Ecovian website. You hereby acknowledge that Ecovian is not responsible for any intercepted information sent via the Internet, and you hereby release Ecovian Inc. from any and all claims arising from or related to the use of intercepted information or communications sent via our website.
Children
Ecovian does not knowingly collect or solicit information from anyone under the age of 13 or knowingly allow such persons to register. Should a child who we know to be under the age of 13 send personal information to us, we will immediately notify such an individual that we must have parental consent before receiving his or her personal information.
Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may change from time to time. We will post any policy changes on this page, and if such a change is significant, will also post notification on our home page. You are responsible for viewing this privacy policy periodically to ensure you are aware of any changes made to it.
