Be it known that by visiting the Dexrex website and using Dexrex Software and Services, you are accepting the practices outlined in this Privacy Policy. Dexrex LLC appreciates that you care about the privacy of your personal information and how it is used and shared. We take your privacy seriously. To learn more about how we treat personally identifying data please read and keep up to date on our privacy policy.
Privacy is at the heart of the spirit of our business model. In order for a service like Dexrex to work, there must be a trusting relationship with the people. The things people instant message are often highly personal and private; we know this because we too are frequent IM users. Sometimes your IMs aren't private or personal, but you still don't want random people reading them. Dexrex is designed with the intent that content access is limited to only those who the owners are comfortable with seeing it.
What Does This Privacy Policy Cover?
This Privacy Policy covers Dexrex LLC's treatment of personal information that Dexrex LLC gathers when you are on the Dexrex website and when you use Dexrex software. This policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that Dexrex LLC does not own or control, or to individuals that Dexrex LLC does not employ or manage.
What Personal Information About Users Does Dexrex LLC Collect?
Our ultimate goal in collecting personal information is to provide users with the best possible service and experience. Towards these ends we only collect personal information that we believe pertinent to delivering quality service and user experience. We collect the following types of information from our users:
1. Information You Provide to Us:
- You need a Dexrex Account to access Dexrex. Dexrex asks for some personal information when you create a Dexrex Account, such as your name, email address, IM logs & screen names, passwords, alternate, contacts, contact information and aliases. This information is requested in order to provide Dexrex services to you and prevent unauthorized access to Dexrex accounts. For your protection certain sensitive information, such as passwords and logs, we maintain in encrypted form on secure servers.
- We receive and store any information you enter on our website, or provide to us in any other way. You can choose not to provide us with certain information. However, if you choose to do so it may limit your experience.
- Dexrex cookies - When you visit Dexrex, we send one or more cookies to your computers that uniquely identify your browser. We use cookies to improve the quality of our service by storing user preferences and tracking user trends. You may choose to refuse Dexrex cookies. However, some Dexrex features and services may not function properly if your cookies are disabled.
- Log information - When you use Dexrex services, our servers automatically record information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website. These logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.
- User communications - When you send email or other communication to Dexrex, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests and improve our services.
2. Automatic Information:
- We receive and store certain types of information whenever you interact with us. Dexrex automatically receives and records certain "traffic data" on our server logs from your browser including your IP address, browser types, cookie information, and the page you requested. Dexrex uses this traffic data to help diagnose problems with its servers, analyze trends and administer the website.
- Syndication: Dexrex allows for the personal syndication of any personal data published from the site.
What we won't do with your data
We will never voluntarily compromise the security of your privacy or your data. Dexrex LLC employees, contractors, friends, neighbors, or anyone else, cannot and will never look at your message content unless they are permitted to do so by the owners of the content. Breaking this rule would be very bad for our company, our market, and our joy in life. We will not give out or sell any direct account information to third parties. We will not email you unless it's really important.
What we may do with your data
Your data is yours, and we respect that. The last thing that we want is for your privacy to feel compromised. If you strongly disagree with something we are doing with your data, write to us and ask if we can exclude your account from the practice. If we are technologically unable to agree to this request we will offer to export all your data to you and remove it wholly from our servers.
We will engage in the practice of 'machine analysis' on your message content. This includes offering YOU, our beloved user, the ability to search for your links, text, phone-numbers, or counting how many times you've typed "LOL" to your buddies. This is similar to the technology other companies use to throw contextual ads at you while you use their products. We will not directly sell or otherwise offer access to any of your content to third parties.
We will derive meta-data and second-hand knowledge off of your content by 'machine analysis'. This data will be at least partly available to our user base as we develop it, so that you can see what we see, and voice your opinions on our practices. This information will be used to help us monetize our market without compromising privacy, since it is derivative information and keeps the private information private. We believe this practice to be in everyone's best interest as it affords the development of free and innovative services such as Dexrex.
Content Sharing
Information was intended to be shared, and potent thoughts are often communicated via IM. We have built sharing features into the site to allow people to share conversations easily with coworkers, friends, and so forth. You can see when a conversation you had was shared by another participant through Dexrex. To maintain privacy, you may mark any conversation as private to prevent unauthorized viewers from seeing the content through Dexrex. However, be warned that this does not prevent users from copying and pasting messages or sharing them by other means. Unfortunately this cannot be prevented by any reasonable methods.
Content Deletion
It's your data, and so it is within your rights to have it deleted. We will not just anonymize it and store it away forever for data mining purposes - we will delete it. With the "shared access" model however, if multiple people are sharing content, it can only be deleted when all participants agree to do so, as we must respect each person's right to their data.
Enforcement
Dexrex regularly reviews its compliance with this Policy. Please feel free to direct any questions or concerns regarding this Policy or Dexrex's treatment of personal information by contacting us through this web site or by writing to us at Dexrex LLC, 6 University Drive, Amherst, Massachusetts 01002, USA. When we receive formal written complaints at this address we will cooperate with the appropriate regulatory authorities, including local data protection authorities, to resolve any complaints regarding the transfer of personal data that cannot be resolved between Dexrex and an individual.
Security
Dexrex LLC takes what we deem to be reasonable and due effort to protect the security and privacy of personally identifiable information from unauthorized access. For security purposes we will not elaborate on the details of this protection.
Conditions of Use
If you decide to visit Dexrex website and use Dexrex LLC software, your use and any possible dispute over privacy is subject to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service Agreement, including limitations on damages, arbitration of disputes, and application of Delaware state law.
Licenses
In order to operate, you, the Dexrex user, agree to give Dexrex LLC a permanent license of unlimited use of all data collected during your Dexrex.com experience, except only actions which are against the Dexrex Privacy Policy as outlined above or prohibited by law. Dexrex LLC or its affiliates will not be held responsible for any breach of privacy or security.
Changes to This Policy
If we decide to change this privacy policy, we will post those changes here so that you will always know what information we gather, how we might use it and whether we will disclose it to anyone. We expect such changes will be minor. Regardless, we will post any Policy changes on this page. If the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice including, for certain services, email notification of Policy changes. Each version of this Policy will be identified at the top of the page by its effective date.
