Privacy Policy
Green.com was created to provide children with a fun, educational and safe online experience, and to provide parents with peace of mind that their children's identity and privacy are protected when using the Green.com site and any of its features.

We take care that our content is suitable for children, especially those under the age of 13, and we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). In addition, we take special measures to help children protect their privacy while online. For example, we do not ask children to disclose more information than is necessary for them to participate in a particular activity, and we take efforts to prevent children from posting contact information.

We are dedicated to safeguarding any personal information we collect and to helping parents and children exercise control over the collection and use of their personal information.

Green.com is a part of the IAC family of businesses (www.iac.com), which includes Ask.com, Citysearch, Evite, Gifts.com, Match.com, ServiceMagic and many others.

1. The information we collect
Children can visit the Green.com site to use the Green.com virtual world and search engine without any personally identifiable information being collected from them. In addition, children can become members of Green.com, which allows them exclusive access to certain Green.com services, such as the ability to create their own avatar, decorate their room, and other access within the virtual world. To establish this level of membership, Green.com collects a screen name (we request that they not use their real first name), gender, date of birth, ZIP code and a parent or guardian's email address. We only use the parent or guardian's email address to notify the parent or guardian that their child has established a Green.com account. The parent or guardian can tell us to delete the child's account. The child may also use the online chat, message board and Green.com email account service if the child's parent or guardian has provided us with consent. Prior to allowing a child to obtain access to online chat, message board and/or Green.com email account access, which permits the child to communicate with other users on or off the site, Green.com, will obtain verifiable consent from the parent or guardian. A parent may either do this at the time the child registers, or an email will be sent to the child's parent or guardian with instructions of how to provide such consent through access to a link in the email which will provide for a credit card transaction for a nominal amount (in which case we will collect your credit card information) or through a form to be faxed or mailed to Green.com. We require parents to give express permission before we will permit their child to use any feature on Green.com where personally identifiable information can be made public to the Internet and shared with other users.

You can refuse to allow your child to use any feature on Green.com where personally identifiable information can be made public to the Internet and shared with other users. We will send the parent or guardian an email indicating that the child has registered, but does not have access to interactive features unless the parent or guardian consents. If Green.com does not hear back from the parent or guardian, we will assume you have not consented to your child using interactive features and we will not permit your child to access any area of the site where they can share personally identifiable information. If we add new interactive features or want to collect additional personal information from your child or use them in ways not previously disclosed to you in connection with your consent, we will notify you and request additional permission for such collection, use and/or sharing.

Parents or guardians who chose to register on Green.com will be provided their own Green.com account (and may obtain a Green.com email account). They may use this functionality to monitor and manage their child's (or children, if multiple children are members) activities, interactions and emails on the site.

Green.com permits children who are members for whom we have received parental consent to share certain information in their Green.com room, in the Green.com instant message service and with their friends, including providing links to other web pages which may include videos and pictures. Green.com takes special measures to prevent children from disclosing personally identifiable information via these forums.

Green.com also gathers usage data regarding your child's activity on Green.com, including what web pages they visit or share, what searches they perform and the results of those searches, what they select as their favorites, as well as time spent on Green.com. We use this data to provide you with information on your child's activities on Green.com, as well as for internal analysis about site performance and services.

For some of our online activities - such as polls or surveys - we may ask users to provide additional information that is not personally identifiable, such as city of residence or a visitor's favorite book. We are not permitted to condition a child's participation in an activity or promotion on them disclosing more personal information than reasonably necessary to participate in that activity, and we will not do so.

When visitors come to our site, we automatically collect some non-personally identifiable information, such as the type of computer operating system (e.g., Windows XP or Mac OS), the user's "IP Address," the web browser (e.g., Firefox, Internet Explorer) being used, and the referring website.

You can review information relating to your child's Green.com account at any time by logging into the parental account that is created once the registration is approved by going to www.green.com. You will need to have your user name that you used to sign up and the password you selected at sign up. If you choose not to allow Green.com to further collect or use your child's information, you can delete your child's account by sending us your request including user name and your email address in writing to: User Request: GDC MEDIA, 4041 Hanover Avenue, Suite 200, Boulder, CO 80305. Your child's comprehensive information will be deleted within 14 days of receipt.

2. How we use the information
Green.com only uses the personally identifiable information collected about children 12 or under for the internal operation of Green.com, as well as providing parents and guardians access to the information. We will never disclose the personally identifiable information for children 12 and under to a third party for any external purpose, unless required by law or disclosed below.

We have created an internal news system that allows us to communicate with members without sending them information to their personal email address. We may, however, communicate with parents via email to tell them about new services available on Green.com, to obtain their feedback about our service, or to present them with promotional offers that may be of interest to them.

We sometimes use the non-personally identifiable information that we collect to improve the design and content of our site, to personalize our visitors' experience on Green.com, and to offer products, programs, and services. We also may use this information in the aggregate to analyze site usage, as well as to offer products, programs, or services.

We will disclose information we maintain when required to do so by law, for example, in response to a court order or a subpoena. We also may disclose such information in response to a law enforcement agency's or other public agency's (including schools or child services) request or if we feel that such disclosure may prevent the instigation of a crime. We may disclose personal information collected from parents or guardians or other individuals 13 years of age or older (but not collected from children under 13) to other businesses that are part of the IAC family of companies. Finally, we may disclose information if there is a transfer of the assets or ownership of Green.com in connection with proposed or consummated corporate reorganizations, such as mergers or acquisitions, to the extent permitted by law.

We will not use or transfer personally identifiable information in ways that are materially different from the ones described above without also providing parental notification of such practices and obtaining consent for any materially different uses.

3. Collection of information for third-party sites and sponsors
Green.com does not sell, trade or rent to third parties personally identifiable information collected on the site. The information collected by Green.com is used to keep parents informed of your child's activities on Green.com, notify parents of products or special offers that may be of interest to you, process orders, keep you informed about your order status, and for statistical purposes for improving our site. We will disclose your personally identifiable information to third parties to charge your credit card, fill your order, improve the functionality of our site, perform statistical and data analyses, deliver your order and deliver promotional emails to parents from us. For example, we must release your credit card number to confirm payment; and release your mailing address information to the delivery service to deliver products that you ordered. Green.com uses PayPal to process payments. Please review their policies if you have questions.

4. Use of cookies and other technologies to collect information.
Green.com uses various technologies to collect information from your computer and about your activities on our site.

* Information collected automatically. We automatically collect information from your browser when you visit our website. This information includes your IP address, your browser type and language, access times, the content of any undeleted cookies that your browser previously accepted from us (see "Cookies" below), and the referring website address.

* Cookies. When you visit our website, we may assign your computer one or more cookies to facilitate access to our site and to personalize your experience with Green.com. Through the use of a cookie, we also may automatically collect information about your online activity on our site, such as the web pages you visit, the links you click, and the searches you conduct on our site. Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies. If you choose to decline cookies, please note that you may not be able to sign in or use some of the interactive features offered on our website.

* Other technologies. We may use standard Internet technology, such as web beacons and other similar technologies, to track your use of our site. We also may include web beacons in promotional or other e-mail messages or newsletters to determine whether messages have been opened and acted upon. The information we obtain in this manner enables us to customize the services we offer our website visitors to deliver targeted advertisements and to measure the overall effectiveness of our online advertising, content, programming or other activities.

* Information collected by third parties. We may allow third parties, including our authorized service providers, IAC companies, advertising companies, and ad networks, to display advertisements on our site. These companies may use tracking technologies, such as cookies to collect information about users who view or interact with their advertisements. Our website does not provide any personal information to these third parties. This information allows them to deliver targeted advertisements and gauge their effectiveness. Some of these third-party advertising companies may be advertising networks that are members of the Network Advertising Initiative, which offers a single location to opt out of ad targeting from member companies (www.networkadvertising.org).

5. How we protect your personal information
We take appropriate security measures (including physical, electronic and procedural measures) to help safeguard your personal information from unauthorized access and disclosure. For example, only authorized employees are permitted to access personal information, and they may do so only for permitted business functions. In addition, we use encryption in the transmission of your sensitive personal information between your system and ours, and we use firewalls to help prevent unauthorized persons from gaining access to your personal information.

We want you to feel confident using our website. However, no system can be completely secure. Therefore, although we take steps to secure your information, we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your personal information, searches, or other communications will always remain secure. Users should also take care with how they handle and disclose their personal information and should avoid sending personal information through insecure email. Please refer to the Federal Trade Commission's website at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/menus/consumer/data.shtm for information about how to protect yourself against identity theft.

Green.com is not responsible for the privacy policies of websites to which it links. If you provide any information to such third parties, different rules regarding the collection and use of your personal information may apply. We strongly suggest you review the privacy policies of other websites before providing any data to them. We are not responsible for the policies or practices of third parties. Please be aware that our sites may contain links to other sites on the Internet that are owned and operated by third parties. The information practices of those Web sites linked to our site are not covered by this Policy. These other sites may send their own cookies to users, collect data or solicit personally identifiable information. Additionally, other companies which place advertising on our site may collect non-personally identifiable information about you when you view or click on their advertising through the use of cookies or web beacons. We cannot control this collection of information. You should contact these entities directly if you have any questions about their use of the information that they collect.

6. Financial information
One method for obtaining verifiable parental consent is to perform a credit card transaction for a nominal amount. If you elect to provide consent through that means, we will collect your (the parent's) credit card information to complete the transaction. In addition, if you decide to purchase additional features for your child, your credit card information will be required at the time of purchase. That information is safeguarded via the measures set forth in section 5.

7. Parental review of information
Parents, please send an email to privacy@green.com if you would like to do any of the following:

Access the personally identifiable information that Green.com has collected online from your child, correct factual errors in such information, request to have this information deleted, or request that we no longer collect or maintain such information.

Please be sure to include your email address and a telephone number where we can reach you. To protect your child's privacy and security, we will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting you access to the personal information that we collect and maintain about your child.
